As some of you might notice I have been active on Linkedin. I like that platform but in reality last month I have been also applying to jobs. Why is that? I am just like you, I like Money and I just want to grow my self professionally.
As some of you know I have been in the Development side of the house but I probably got a lot more experience in the security side of the house. I love both, don’t get me wrong. Some of the applications that i have put in for development I have no luck, the applications that I have put in for security I got some luck.
Today I had an onsite interview, let me be honest, even though I can set up a network at home and set up a lab or set up whatever I am still not the greatest one when it comes to networking. I mean i can solve problems no doubt but I need the internet to my advantage. I can research better than most people when the shit hits the fan. Want a 0 Day exploit? I can find it! Want a solution to a script? I can find it. Want to know how to win the lottery? I can say good luck with that one! Haha!
In reality when it comes to testing and certifications, I suck! So take this as warning. I don’t like testing for certifications because I can’t use the internet, and I am not the type that like to play games when it comes to finding how to stop an attacker then documenting that stuff. Sometimes I miss the ECPI Cyber Team it was great when I was in College and as some of you guys know I also did my time in the military. Even thought I had some experience when it comes to Cyber Security, Companies do not care really about that stuff. I think I bring a lot to the table when it comes to defending a system and even just bringing new ideas to the team. I mean I beat everyone in my class and my GPA was 4.0. Not to many people have their own site or github but I feel like I am at an advantage here because of my real life experience.
Any way! Today when I was in the interview I forgot some of the basic answers to some basic questions, there is a lot that I forgot, I ran Security Onion at home before and I answer with I have never used a SIEM but I have used Security Onion. Maybe they don’t know the tools inside Security Onion or maybe I just don’t know how to come up with the right answer. I feel like I am horrible at interviews but it is all part of life.
Lately I have been learning a lot of Powershell, I feel like Powershell is a big money maker, at the same time it is basically multi-platform. You learn not to stay in the same technology if not you are never going to progress. Even Thought my skill-set is one of the weirdest skillsets in the nation, I feel like if I decide to learn something I just go with the flow, learn it and move on.
I also put a Team of Mobile App developers together, welcome to the Party!! I just want to continue to grow as a professional in different fields and the more options I got the better I will be in the future.
I used to tell my Soldiers If you don’t believe in yourself no one will, GUEST WHAT GUYS? I believe in my self!
I have been training myself years to become the best at what I do. I want to give thanks to the Team that interview me today, I learned a lot from them and the opportunity provided to me.
This is all for now! I definitely need to keep my blog up to date! Again I am learning Powershell not just the basic stuff. everyone knows the basics, I am trying to make Powershell my best language or tool if I get chosen to do this Job.
